“We have a dictator running this country”: House Democrat says Trump isn’t sharing US casualty figures with Congress
With at least 17 US troops dead and dozens more wounded in attacks the Pentagon won’t even confirm, the president of the United States is treating his “little excursion” in Iran like a side hustle he doesn’t have to bother explaining to Congress.
Rep. Adam Smith (WA), the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, is literally getting casualty updates from a guy who knows a guy at a base in Jordan, while the Pentagon and Sec. of War Crimes Pete Hegseth simply stonewall the legislative branch altogether.
“We have a dictator running this country. We have never had a situation where we’ve been at war and the president has treated it as his own war, where he doesn’t have to share information with the American people or with Congress. I mean, this is a frightening situation. And, yeah, they have not been telling us what’s been happening in terms of lost equipment, in terms of the cost of the war, and certainly in terms of the service members who have been wounded,” Smith added.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump DHS goon threatens states in election-theft throwdown
Department of Homeland Security Sec. Markwayne Mullin just announced that if states do not comply with his wild demand to hand over voter data rolls so his goons can disenfranchise any voters they choose he will simply cut off their funding for election security altogether.
Intrepid observers might find this a particularly curious move, since, according to Mullin and the rest of the Trump regime, foreign interference in our elections is the single greatest threat to American democracy. Brian Tyler Cohen and Marc Elias discuss the ramifications of this impressively stupid new gambit on the latest episode of “Democracy Watch.”

Lindsey Graham’s replacement swears loyalty to Trump. Dr. Annie Andrews will STOP HIM
Dr. Annie Andrews for Senate After the sudden death of Sen. Graham, Donald Trump tapped his sister Darline to fill his seat. Now she has announced she’ll be running for a full term — and has pledged her loyalty to Trump. Our country cannot afford to have yet another MAGA zealot in the Senate. Democratic Senate candidate Dr. Annie Andrews will be the complete opposite of a feckless rubber stamp for Donald. We need to strike while the iron’s hot and make sure Dr. Annie Andrews’ pro-family, pro-workers, pro-public healthcare message is heard by the people of South Carolina BEFORE Darline and Trump flood the airwaves with lies and misinformation. Andrews won’t take a dime of corporate PAC money, so she is going to need our help. Will you chip in to help Annie flip this critical seat blue and take back the Senate for Democrats?
After “political terrorism” summit, US names 43 Americans and groups
The Trump administration’s desperate efforts to make “left-wing socialist terrorism” a thing hit an even more embarrassing and disturbing low with the release of a new State Department report on Cuba’s “campaign of subversion against the United States.” In it is a blacklist of left-wing groups and people that the Trump regime deems political enemies — which includes NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, LA Mayor Karen Bass, Ben Cohen (Ben from Ben & Jerry’s ice cream), streamer Hasan Piker, and groups like the Democratic Socialists of America and the Amazon Labor Union.
Sec. of State Marco Rubio and the rest of the dead-eyed psychos in the Trump admin are intent on bringing back full-blown McCarthyism against a rising left rallying the American people against the oligarchy and its fascistic agents. But this isn’t 1965 anymore, and the utter unseriousness of this list (the ice cream guy? really?) really makes it hard for anyone to take this nonsense seriously.

Trump hits record-breaking low in polls
Just like Donald’s pettiness and cruelty, his poll numbers can definitely go lower.

Artist who made $100,000 life-sized Charlie Kirk sculpture says he has no buyers, but people told him they want to urinate on it
Marcel Duchamp famously put a urinal on display, called it art, and made history. Sergio Furnari spent $100,000 of his own money sculpting a life-sized Charlie Kirk but reportedly cannot find any interested buyers. He has, however, found plenty of people interested in peeing on it.
They say art is in the eye of the beholder, but they never talk about exactly how it should be beholden.
MAGA candidate Brandon Herrera made sexual assault-themed jokes about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
A few days ago we learned exactly what Republican House candidate and future ankle monitor model Brandon Herrera thinks about politically active mothers. Today we’re getting a taste for his foreign policy chops. Just kidding. It’s just more “edgy,” mysognistic bullshit from the man Donald Trump blessed with his “Complete and Total Endorsement.”
On Putin’s brutal invasion of neighboring Ukraine, a war that has claimed some 600,000 lives over the past four-plus years, Herrera had this to say: “Russia decided Ukraine was looking extra submissive and breedable last night.”
When these drooling cave trolls tell us exactly who they are, we should definitely believe them.

Stop Big Pork’s dangerous and deceptive “Save Our Bacon Act!”
Farm Forward: When 63% of California voters passed a law in 2018 to end extreme — and extremely cruel — animal confinement, the Supreme Court backed them up. So Big Pork turned to their friends in Congress to thwart the will of the people. Tucked inside the farm bill currently being debated in Congress is a deceptively named provision called the “Save Our Bacon Act.” It sounds like it helps farmers. It does nothing of the sort. The industrial pork industry has never won a single ballot fight on this issue. Not in California. Not in Massachusetts. Not in Arizona. Not in Florida. Unsurprisingly, major meatpacking corporations have since turned to Capitol Hill, looking to cash in on the millions in campaign donations they’ve made for moments just like this. The consequences, of course, go far beyond pork. Harvard researchers found the “Save Our Bacon Act’s” vague language could jeopardize more than 600 state laws, including protections tied to bird flu, livestock disease control, seafood labeling, food safety standards, and local farm procurement programs. Add your name to Farm Forward’s petition calling on Congress to reject the deceptive “Save Our Bacon Act” today!
Man who died running from ICE was tourist with a ticket home
The 28-year-old Mexican man who was killed while running from Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials last week was visiting the country on a valid tourist visa. Juan Jairo Coronilla Duran was in a car with three other people on July 14 when ICE and Homeland Security agents pulled them over near State Road 16 in St. Augustine, Florida. Coronilla Duran fled the scene on foot and was hit by a semi-truck as he attempted to cross the highway.
His wife, Yésica Alamilla López, told reporters that Coronilla Duran had only just recently arrived in the US. “He had a tourist visa and had been here in the United States for a short time — only three weeks,” she told Spectrum News after arriving at the Orlando airport from Mexico. “He had been in Florida for just two days.”
Isaret Jeffers, the founder of Orlando-based farmworkers’ advocacy group Colectivo Arbol, told The Miami Herald Monday that at the time of his death, Coronilla Duran was planning to return to Mexico within days. “He was going to return this past Saturday. He had already bought a flight,” Jeffers told the paper. “Now, unfortunately, if he is returning, his return is different.”

Pete Hegseth’s reprehensible spiritual adviser gives shocking interview to LGBTQ outlet Uncloseted Media
Brace yourselves, folks. Doug Wilson, the Christian nationalist pastor from Idaho who has Pete Hegseth on speed dial, goes deep on just how batshit crazy a world he wants us all to live in, and just how far he’s willing to go to eradicate homosexuality according to his interpretation of “God’s law.”
Hats off to Uncloseted Media’sSpencer Macnaughton for keeping his cool during Wilson’s extended assault on morality, decency, modernity, sexual identity, and basic sanity. Bonkers doesn’t begin to cut it.
