Look, we know the Supreme Court essentially ushered in Jim Crow 2.0 last month when they gutted the Civil Rights Act of 1965, but we’re pretty sure using wildly racist, slavery-era rhetoric from the 19th century to describe House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries — who just so happens to be Black — is still beyond the pale.

GOP Rep. Jen Kiggans of Virginia was speaking with Richmond-based, right-wing radio commentator Rich Herrera yesterday, who had this to say: “If Hakeem Jeffries wants to be involved in Virginia politics, then I suggest he … leave New York, move down here to Virginia, run for office down here, you can represent us. If not, get your cotton-picking hands off of Virginia.” Kiggans responded affirmatively, “That’s right. Ditto. Yes. Yes, to that,” then had the gall to claim later she did not condone Herrera’s “language.” Uh huh. Have it both ways much, Jen?

NYT columnist drops bombshell column detailing widespread, systemic sexual abuse of detained Palestinians by Israeli authorities
The New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof has exposed nightmarish allegations against Israel, accusing the country’s security apparatus of employing “systematic sexual violence,” calling the abhorrent tactic a “widely practiced” part of “organized state policy.” The allegations against Israeli soldiers and settlers are beyond horrific, including rape, sexual torture to the point where testicles have had to be amputated, and even the use of trained police dogs to rape detainees.

A Save the Children survey found that over half of the Palestinian children who had been detained by Israel had been exposed to or experienced sexual violence. Victims are threatened with death or more abuse if they complain, and the abuse is often videotaped to be used as blackmail.

The documented exoneration and celebration of Israeli security guards who raped a Palestinian prisoner on camera in 2024 has created an atmosphere of absolute impunity and a free-for-all of sexual violence, even against children. “Our American tax dollars subsidize the Israeli security establishment, so this is sexual violence in which the United States is complicit,” Kristof said.
