Whatever semblance of courage four Republican senators seemed to muster yesterday evaporated into the late-night ether after an apoplectic dressing down from Dear Leader at the Capitol. Following Tuesday’s successful vote in the upper chamber to block Donald Trump’s war in Iran, the wannabe dictator dashed down the street for a face-to-face gaslighting session, where he harangued Sens. Bill Cassidy (LA), Rand Paul (KY), Lisa Murkowski (AK), and Susan Collins (ME) for their momentary lapse of fealty.

Late last night, the Senate introduced yet another, nearly identical war powers resolution, and, wouldn’t you know it, Republicans capitulated, giving Trump all the wiggle room needed to continue running his costly misadventure further into the ground.

Secretary of War Crimes Pete Hegseth said in March that “almost 90%” of the roughly 400 American service members wounded during the conflict with Iran suffered only minor injuries and had already returned to duty, which is a really convenient way of papering over serious casualties to dozens of US servicemembers. Ya know, the kind of news that just might’ve swayed an already uneasy public about the wisdom of Trump’s decision to pre-emptively launch yet another war in the Middle East.
