The way it works, ICE goons round up thousands of immigrants across the nation, then ship them off in clusters to faraway places they’ve never been to, have no connection to, and have little chance of ever fully integrating into.

The secret deals with said foreign governments were written without the typical statutory requirements to assure human rights safeguards. And even the State Department’s own human rights reports explicitly warn of violations in several of the countries, including Cameroon, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea.

Immigration attorneys and advocates have argued that the third-country deportations are simply a loophole to bypass the United States’ own rules against sending immigrants back to their country of origin if they are at risk of persecution or torture there. In many cases, third countries simply send the immigrants back to their home countries anyway. Some live definitely matter more than others.
